About 2 months ago, I discovered that my attention span was becoming invisible.
I found out that reading a 2000-word article was becoming really difficult for me.
I would open a book and after reading about 2 paragraphs, I would get bored.
Watching a video that is more than 10 minutes was a no go area.
And it was beginning to affect my self-development.
I knew trouble was looming if I didn’t do anything about this poor development.
So, I slowed down and took a look at what was causing it.
I found out that even though reading a 2000-word article was painful for me, I could spend 2 hours browsing through social media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
I am not saying all social media is bad – but it is built around the concept of instant gratification and to get you addicted.
So, the first thing I did was to drastically reduce the amount of time I spent on social media.
Then I started meditating every morning for 10 minutes.
Meditating in this case simply means: I will set my timer for 10 minutes.
Then I will sit on my chair and close my eyes, I try to think about nothing and focus on my breathing until the timer goes off.
In the beginning, it wasn’t easy.
I had to do it based on 5 minutes until I got used to it.
After the meditation, I will set my timer again and discipline myself to read a book for 30 minutes.
And these 3 things worked for me.
For instance, I just completed a home-study course that is about 40 hours long.
Most people’s attention span is so short nowadays.
Check yourself and do something about it.
May God help us all.
Amen sir
